UX - Quantitative Survey

By Fabricio Teixeira for UXdesign

Introduction

What It's a study made of questions that provide numbers as the result (a.k.a. you can see nicely in a spreadsheet and create charts of it): multiple choice, check box, scale, among others. Why Quick and unexpensive way to measure user satisfaction and collect feedback of product. It could indicate the need for a deeper qualitative test (usability or focus group). Be aware: if the survey is not carefully thought, the results could be contaminated by the question that you made or the options that you give. Ugh.

1 7 aspects of successful usability questionnaires

7 aspects of successful usability questionnairesThis week in HCI we've been thinking about questionnaires. They can be an important usability tool, although there are also many limitations. Primarily questionnaires are used as a quantitative data collection method (i.e. it will give back a large amount of responses), and so, compared to a qualitative methodology, are useful in pinpointing where problems

2 Better User Research Through Surveys

Online surveys are commonly used by marketers, product managers, strategists and others to gather feedback. You've probably participated in some of these surveys and I'm sure you've noticed that they're often executed poorly. Surveys are increasingly becoming a more accepted tool for UX practitioners. Both qualitative and quantitative methods of user research play important roles in product development. Data from quantitative research-such as market size, demographics, and user preferences-provides important information for business decisions. Qualitative research provides valuable data for use in the design

4 Five Critical Quantitative UX Concepts: MeasuringU

If you're in User Experience, chances are you probably didn't get into the field because of your love of math. As UX continues to mature it's becoming harder to avoid using statistics to quantify design improvements. One of my goals is to help make challenging concepts more approachable and accessible. Last week Jim Lewis and I gave our tutorial on

5 Ten Guidelines for Quantitative Measurement of UX

Most UX designers use qualitative research-typically in the form of usability tests-to guide their decision-making.
